Symphonic band

(Grades 11-12)

Symphonic Band is the most advanced instrumental ensemble of the high school bands and requires excellent musical skills as well as individual practice.  Many styles of musical literature will be performed.  Symphonic Band activities will include concerts, festivals, and adjudicated events throughout the school year. 

Concert Band

(Grades 9-10)

The emphasis in Concert Band is a continuation of the fundamental playing techniques for the young musician.  Several styles of musical literature will be performed.  Concert Band activities will include concerts, festivals, and adjudicated events throughout the school year. 

Marching Band

(Grades 9-12)

The Clay High School Marching Band is a show band that performs at all varsity football games.  It  consistently performs multiple shows every football season, integrating challenging music, with cutting edge marching and drill techniques.  Students can also audition to be a part of the Flag Corps, Majorettes, Drum Line, or the Drum Major.  This year, 135 students will continue the tradition of the Clay High School Marching Band.

Jazz Band

(Grades 9-12)

The Clay High School Jazz Band is an auditioned ensemble that rehearses after school during the second semester.  Students in the jazz band will learn jazz related instrument specific techniques, improvisation, jazz theory, and jazz history.  The jazz band consistently has grown in size an instrumentation.  This past year, 35 student musicians performed.

Athletic Band

(Grades 9-12)

The Athletic Band performs at home boys/girls basketball games each year.   They perform current to classic pop songs along with the traditional Clay High School Fight Song.  

Solo and Ensemble

(Grades 9-12)

Interested band students are eligible to participate in the Ohio Music Education Association Solo and Ensemble Contest.  This adjudicated event provides an opportunity for young instrumentalists to develop and demonstrate their musicianship, artistry, and skill.  Each participant will perform a selected work for an adjudicator to receive an evaluation, comments, and score.
